Retailers and manufacturers pivoted to e-commerce in huge numbers during the pandemic. On the upside, it accelerated sales, but it also brought a reoccurring issue to the forefront: gray-market activities and counterfeits gained momentum. In 2020, Customs Border Protection seized "26,503 shipments containing goods that violated intellectual property rights. The total estimated value of the seized goods, had they been genuine, was nearly $1.3 billion." In this session, we will explore the negative ripple effects of gray-market activities including customer distrust, the erosion of brand identity and integrity, and the loss of sales and margins. And we'll offer best practices that can be implemented in order to tackle unauthorized sales channels and protect brands and margins.
